WMA's Vice-President and Acting President steps down

Dear athletes and supporters,
It is with great sadness that we have been informed of Monty Hacker's resignation from his prestigious positions at WMA due to health challenges. Monty's contributions to both SA and World Masters has been immense over the years and we wish him well in his recovery.

SAMA President

Message from the President

The 2009 National championships were a resounding success and thanks to the many compliments received from participants and supporters. The standards were again very high and consequently 22 records broken (the ratification process is in motion), 17 National Colours awards and 18 re-awards bestowed which underpins the excellent health of our sport. Well done to the WP men's and Gauteng-North women's teams for winning gold in the 4 x 100m relays in fantastic times. We have taken the suggestions received recently in improving our efficiencies and will in this context be able to announce the appointment of SAMA's Technical Manager shortly. We are also very keen on promoting the participation of masters as officials and urge those able to go on the relevant IAAF and ASA courses to do so.

The next season promises to be another excellent one as we have already two extra provincial championships planned and most of the dates confirmed or close to confirmation with the national championships in our Mother City for a sporting 2010.

Please send your suggestions, news and inputs directly to president@mastersathletics.org.za

The Lahti 2009 World Masters Championships

Please use the link provided on this page. You will notice that entries have closed and we are able to announce a relatively large team of 26 participants which is excellent given the current economic climate. We urge all participants to purchase, via your provincial masters structures, the newly accredited National Kit so that we can again be viewed as one proudly South African team. The team management is currently being arranged and will be posted here soon. Good luck to our 26 athletes and their supporters travelling with them.

Lahti update from the President’s desk

Dear World Champs participants,
The following requirement was dealt with in detail at the recently held SAMA AGM and the message should have been relayed to those of you who were not present by your provinces (this has clearly not been done based on the numerous phone calls received this week), that is, the new kit is the only compliant kit and is therefore a requirement for all participants from SAMA. Apart from the very obvious prestige in representing our country, we need to be visible as one team and therefore will not be recognising those who do not comply in full with SAMA requirements.

Looking forward to your co-operation in this crucial matter.

Yours in SAMA
