Welcome to South African Masters Athletics
Welcome South African masters athletes to your official web site. Please take the time to navigate the web site that should give you some insight into masters athletics and upcoming events for this year. To join masters athletics please contact your provincial masters organisation where their contact details are on the Contact Us page.
Gauteng North Masters are hosting our annual national championships in May, at the always competitive Pilditch track in Pretoria, entry forms are posted on this site under Upcoming Events. All athletes qualify to participate in our provincial and national championships as this is the credo of WMA (World Masters Athletics) as endorsed by our ultimate controlling body, the IAAF. Earning medals however at our prestigious national championships is subject to meeting the medal standards that are indeed achievable for the best national performers. Typically most of the popular events have three medal winners without fail including the relay events.
One of the most important measures of masters athletes performance is the age graded system that is well explained on Age-Graded-Calculator where masters performance can be measured and monitored over the ages in an objective and equitable manner. This site also has good results, albeit unofficial, globally that can help masters gauge themselves. For SAMA National Colours Standards and SAMA National Medal Standards, click here.
We have several upcoming provincial championships that are open to all masters from thirty years of age that are very competitive and culminate in the nationals. Please note that temporary numbers can be purchased for these meetings but only permanent licence numbers are allowed for the national championships for local athletes and our visiting athletes will have to purchase temporary numbers when entering.
